Biography of John Antonovich

Born on August 23. The birth in such a famous monarch of the dynasty as the Romanovs played a cruel joke with the boy and condemned the torment and premature death. The years of the reign of Ivan VI Antonovich Ivan was born shortly before the death of Anna Ioannovna, who wanted direct heirs to the new rulers of the Russian Empire on the generic branch of her father Ivan V. and his great -grandson is an excellent option.

Less than a month before her death, the empress signed a manifesto, in which she declared three -month Ivan Antonovich with her receiver, and in the event of his death, the Russian throne had to cross the seniority of her niece, Anna Leopoldovna. Anna Ioannovna died on October 27. After some time, a half -year -old baby was proclaimed by the Russian emperor Ivan VI. His reign lasted a little over a year, and even then, only formally.

With such a young ruler, the favorite of the deceased Empress Count Biron was first appointed a regent. After his overthrow, the mother of the emperor, the Battena emperor Anna Leopoldovna, who was distinguished by a pleasant appearance, good nature and at the same time with her laziness, sloppiness and a weak-willed character, became the regenter. The young woman did not have the slightest knowledge of how to rule the country and conduct state affairs.

In everything, she relied on the Germans, who occupied important posts even under Anna Ioannovna. This situation caused dissatisfaction with the Russian aristocracy, the army and common people. Most were inclined to the fact that the throne should be occupied by Elizaveta Petrovna, the daughter of Peter the Great. Conspiracies began against the ruling regent and her one -year -old son, who, due to his age, could not understand what was happening.

The last step towards the palace coup was the rash act of Anna Leopoldovna. She proclaimed herself Russian empress. The arrest and imprisonment on December 25, the unrecognized empress was arrested and sent together with the young emperor and his whole family into exile. Elizaveta Petrovna became the ruler. Ivan Antonovich was first sent to Riga, where Lieutenant General Saltykov looked after him.

A year later, the unfortunate child was transferred to the walls of the fortress of Dinamyunde. Two years later, the family of Ivan and his own in different carriages was transported to the vicinity of Ryazan, and from there to Kholmogora, the Arkhangelsk province, where a four -year -old child was completely separated from his parents, sending him to the Solovetsky monastery.

It was strictly forbidden to call the boy Ivan and talk to him, now he was called George. But not all guards followed the ban. Thanks to them, the disgraced little monarch learned to read. At the age of ten, Ivan fell ill with smallpox and measles at the same time. There was no doubt about his imminent death, but the children's body coped with the disease, the boy survived.

Elizaveta Petrovna was panicky afraid of overthrow from the throne, Ivan VI Antonovich remained a threat to her, because he still had supporters. After the next exposed conspiracy in the year, the fifteen -year -old former emperor is transferred to the Shlisselburg fortress. Here he spent the last years of his short and unhappy life in a single chamber and complete isolation from people.

Only three officers, who were particularly cruel to the prisoner, knew about who really is imprisonment. The overthrown emperor Ivan Antonovich was killed while trying to escape on July 16.
