Father, Rodin Alexei Stepanovich, had three classes of education of a parish school. Mother, Anna Stepanovna, was completely illiterate. From early childhood, my father tamed me to work. In - 33 years, my parents were gone. There are four of us. I graduated from the elementary school in a year in a neighboring village of Gorna. The teacher of this school, Alexander Georgievna Ryabukhina, who devoted his whole life to the work of training and raising peasant children, in every way supported the love of drawing at school and especially persistently advised me to “study for the artist”.
My parents also loved art and supported my desire. Since the year, I studied at the factory seven-year-old in Bezhetsk, living at Aunt, Nesopotina Maria Stepanovna, my mother’s native sister. This illiterate woman herself was very fond of singing, music and fine art, and since the year I and my little Mary's sister, she became the second mother. At a seven-year school, I met an artist-pedagogue, a pupil of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, Student A.
Stepanova and Ap. Vasnetsova, Ivan Malakhievich Kostenko. This wonderful, honest man, a great enthusiast of aesthetic education of the people, was my first art teacher. We were sent to serve in the Bryansk Front protection battalion. I was ordered to work at the headquarters of the battalion.
