It was written by the former commander of the Rifle Regiment Smurgin. I am writing to you about your son, Nikolai Yashin, to whom I owe my life. He was a brave scout. He was able to obtain important information about the enemy, and I, as the regiment commander, was always aware of the cases and plans of the Nazis. For this, everyone loved Nikolai in the regiment, and I set him as an example for fighters and commanders.
In the summer of the year, our regiment, after careful preparation of the assault, broke through the defense of the Nazis at the Basy and Resta River and went to the Dnieper. It was in the area of Mogilev. They immediately received an order: on improvised means to force the Dnieper and take possession of Mogilev’s railway station. I began to fulfill the order.
First I decided to send a group of the most daring fighters to the enemy bank of the river to occupy a bridgehead. The choice fell on scouts led by your son Nikolai. At night, he crossed with his daredevils the Dnieper. As soon as the paratroopers managed to cling to the shore, the Germans opened a hurricane fire from all types of weapons.
To the honor of the scouts, they were not confused: the Nazis were knocked out of the first line of trenches and suppressed the enemy’s fire points. Then I moved the entire regiment through the Dnieper. At dawn, we already fought for the station. The Nazis fiercely resisted. The counterattack followed the counterattack. And there was a moment when the enemy managed to squeeze one of my units and approach the house in which my command post was located.
The house was surrounded, and the Nazis demanded: "Surrender to prisoner." We answered grenades. After breaking through the gap in the ring, they wanted to jump out of the house, but the enemy managed to close the ring again and opened such a fire on the command point that we would all be not without an unexpected blow to the Nazis from the flank. I look, who is this? Our saviors were desperate scouts, led by Nikolai Yashin.
Their blow was so power that the Nazis ran in a panic. Many of them raised their hands up. In a word, the command post was saved, and I continued to lead the battle. How I was grateful to Nikolai Ivanovich! If not for him, it would not be for me and everyone who was with me alive. And what a pity that just a few minutes after that, already possessing the station, the regiment lost his pet went into the last attack on the Nazis, who tried to keep the station, Nikolai Ivanovich, your wonderful son, fell the death of the brave.
He was truly the hero "Biography prepared:.
